This famous synagogue in Fustat (Old Cairo) was originally called the Synagogue of the Men of Israel, built in 882 on the ruins of a Coptic church that had been sold to the Jews. It became known as the Synagogue of the Prophet Elijah and also as the Synagogue of Ben Ezra.
